Everytime I look at most of my textbooks left over from college, I think one of two things: Man, that is going to make a future bookshelf in my mansion look pretty flippin sweet! And the other is, each of those books could have bought enough beer to last an entire weekend back in college. If you have ever been in college or watched Animal House, you know how important that is.
I am willing to bet that as you read this, a cell phone is within ten yards of where you are. My cell phone is five feet to my left on the island in my kitchen.
My point is, the Internet is not the only option to find information on college programs that are available to you. If you are sick of fruitless searches on the Internet, let me show you another option that will not take much of your time and costs as much as searching the Internet (aka FREE).
A few weeks ago I was sitting with my younger cousins about to take the first portion of their semester exams. The eldest of them was stressing the importance of the exam results, and the fact that they were unprepared, frantically – so much so that it was stressing out the others whom I was visiting that day. It still boggles my mind as to how people don’t understand how everyone retains knowledge – aren’t they teaching these things in high school these days?
If there was one major thing I have learned through my education, it is that the selection of a teacher is directly correlated to the success in the class.
An example that I like to give is the time when I received a C+ on a paper I wrote when I was a junior in high school. I sought out my English teacher because I disagreed heavenly with her analysis of my paper. We had a lengthy discussion as to why I received the grade I did, and I left it at that. In retrospect, I think I wanted her to prove she didn’t just get tired of reading papers and start assigning grades based on some pre-defined notion.
Recently I had to travel to Boston for a business conference and I had the opportunity to spend some time with an old college friend of mine. When I was attending college in Michigan, I flew into Orlando to attend a 5 day leadership conference being held at a five star resort. I paid three hundred dollars for the entire trip. You cannot buy a one-way plane ticket for that much money.
Later that same year, I attended a 3 day leadership conference in Manhattan at the University of Columbia with all expenses paid.
